No Gambling
Imbricated Real (Simone Aughterlony, Julia Häusermann)
Zürich, Berlin
In casinos, in cellars, in back rooms at night, people are gambling. On a green felt surface, where normally billiard balls roll, performers are moving. The hanging mobile looks like a fragile structure made of space junk. On stage, Julia appears as a chimera, Nele as a human-sized die, and Simone as a Joker. Then they disappear again.
“No Gambling” plays with repetition and morality, with ideas of addiction and desire. It looks for the magical in the everyday, the risk in the game. But what happens when the ice melts, the sand is re-distributed and the melon is eaten up – what is left for us to play with then?
Julia Häusermann is an actor and ensemble member of Theater HORA. In 2013 she was awarded the Alfred-Kerr-Darstellerpreis for her role in “Disabled Theater”, which was selected for the Berliner Theatertreffen.
Simone Aughterlony is an independent artist, working predominantly in dance, performance and visual art contexts. They have been devising queer-spirited choreographic works over the last sixteen years. As a performer they have worked with artists such as Meg Stuart/Damaged Goods, Forced Entertainment and Jorge León, Phil Hayes amongst others.
“No Gambling” is the first performance Julia Häusermann and Simone Aughterlony have developed together.
