A Year without Summer

1816 is to go down in history as the ‘Year Without a Summer’, Mary Shelley creates with Frankenstein a genius, forcing nature to bend to his will, ending up in destruction with his monster assembled from corpses‘ parts. In her new work, Florentina Holzinger outlines a new apocalyptic vision of artificial life: in an attempt to dominate nature, the body becomes a field of experimentation that is subject to increasingly radical weather conditions. A Year without Summer is about interfering with nature to the point of perversion and an attempt to pit the promise of eternal life against the certainty of death.
Holzinger is known for her spectacular productions, with which she has been invited to the Theatertreffen three times.
Florentina Holzinger is a choreographer and performer. In her spectacular and physically intense pieces, she incorporates references from the history of performance and dance and relates them to other disciplines such as kickboxing, artistry, striptease and circus. Her works consciously play with the shifting boundaries between high and pop culture and are always feminist manifestos. She critically examines the representation of femininity and reflects on body discipline and gender images in dance. In 2021, Florentina Holzinger was represented with TANZ. A sylphidic reverie in stunts at the Festival Theaterformen.
