Soliloquio (I woke up and hit my head against the wall)

Tiziano Cruz

Jujuy & Buenos Aires

In Soliloquio (I woke up and hit my head against the wall), Tiziano Cruz blends the sound of the caja with the story of his life and the voices of local Latin American communities. Based on 58 letters that he wrote from Buenos Aires to his mother in the province of Jujuy in 2020, he criticises the Argentinian state’s ongoing political, social and ecological mechanisms of oppression that threaten Indigenous communities. Combining memories and suppressed feelings, personal and collective issues, the artist examines in his monologue the feeling of being a foreigner in his own country and asks with touching intensity: What place does my Indigenous body have in a white system that keeps my perspectives invisible? What does it mean to make art with that body and to use it as capital?

The performance starts at Schlossplatz Braunschweig.
