Irineu Nje’a Terena's installation features four inflatable itaakás, a powerful instrument crafted from natural materials and steeped in ancient secrets. Used in the Terena Indigenous spiritual ceremony known as Ohekoti, which means "to spin," the itaaká connects participants with their guardian spirit, Koipihapati, who offers guidance during life's challenges. This piece represents the Earth, symbolizing all living beings, from the micro to the macro, without distinction. The images on each itaaká showcase the Terena Indigenous identity and their power animals: the jaguar embodies the spiritual strength of the forest and the element of earth; the hawk represents inner spiritual quest and is connected to the element of fire; the hummingbird symbolizes the strength of winds and the cosmic connection, related to the element of air; and the fish embodies the strength of rivers and seas, emphasizing self-connection and care for others, associated with the element of water.
