In this installation, artists Roseane Cadete and Kaiwino Wiz delve into the themes of biopiracy and the erasure of Indigenous knowledge through the use of traditional gourds and jenipapo dye. Each gourd overflows with the nourishing practices of the Wapichana – incorporating healing, prayer, and protection – symbolically reclaimed from those who sought to exploit it. The jenipapo paintings serve as a protective charm, bringing together both artists and viewers in a shared narrative of resilience and resistance against centuries of cultural appropriation. This work is a call to recognize and respect the legacies of Indigenous communities.
