New artistic director for Festival Theaterformen

As of the 1st of September 2020, Anna Mülter is the artistic director of Festival Theaterformen. The literature and theatre studies scholar will present her first edition of the festival from the 8th to the 18th of July 2021 in Hannover.

Since 2014, Anna Mülter was the director of Tanztage Berlin and was part of the team responsible for the Sophiensæle’s dance programme and theme festivals. Based on her initiative, the production and performance venue in Berlin has developed into an exemplary institution in the area of accessibility and visibility for artists with disability. From 2016 to 2019, Anna Mülter was also dramaturge at the Tanzhaus NRW.

Anna Mülter previously also worked on the programme of the festival Theater der Welt 2014 in Mannheim and was director of the Goethe Institute excellence project EUROPOLY in cooperation with the Münchner Kammerspiele. Born in Hannover, until 2012 she was a production manager, curatorial assistant and dramaturge at Hebbel am Ufer in Berlin under the artistic directorship of Matthias Lilienthal. There she looked after interdisciplinary projects with international artists including Yael Bartana, Janet Cardiff, Harun Farocki, Rabih Mroué, Toshiki Okada, Peaches and Nelisiwe Xaba. She also produced the site-specific project “X Wohnungen” in Johannesburg and Athens.

Anna Mülter is looking forward to the “lively urban communities of Braunschweig and Hannover” and “bringing together the local and the international through art”. In her curatorial work, access is very important to her: “How can experimental theatre be opened up for a broad and diverse audience?” Direct dialogue with the audience, but also the expansion of disabled accessibility are both issues she feels strongly about. “As an international festival, we also have to ask ourselves about sustainability. I want to accept this challenge both in terms of content and structure in my first edition of the festival in 2021.”

Festival Theaterformen 2021 will take place from the 8th to the 18th July in Hannover.
