ARTISTIC WORK IN THE BLACK DIASPORA

In her choreographies, nora chipaumire explores black bodies and black identities in a very diverse way; in her trilogy #PUNK 100% POP *N!GGA using different styles of music. Chipaumire was born in Mutare. She lives and works in New York City.

RENARRATING HANNOVER
Artistic strategies for multi-layered narratives

While Marco Canale worked with senior citizens from Hannover for months on Die Geschwindigkeit des Lichts, Mats Staub invited people from Hannover for a conversation about births and deaths. Both pieces give the participants’ own stories space. What strategies do the artists use? What role do the individual biographies play? What does their work tell us about Hannover?

DECOLONIAL IMAGINATION
Which movements are inscribed on which bodies?

In A Call to Dance, Amrita Hepi collected movements from local Hannover people and shaped them into a performance. In one-on-one conversations, she asked them about belonging, public space, intellectual property, bodies. Who owns what? Who controls what, and who can use what? Who is excluded?

DOCUMENTARY THEATRE AS WITNESSING

How can documentary theatre function as a witness? While in Untitled, former political prisoners give an account of their experiences framed artistically, in Aleppo: A Portrait of Absence, actors speak documentary texts, which the audience adds to. What possibilities and aesthetic strategies for witnessing does documentary theatre offer and what difficulties and limits are inherent to the form?
