Masha Qrella already had two instrumental bands in the late nineties, Mina and Contriva. But while they echo with the barren expanses of the former coal-mining region in Germany’s north-east, Qrella’s solo recordings since “Luck” in 2002 have been clear and concrete, like a lonely figure drifting on an inflatable mattress on the now new artificial lakes of the Lausitz Lake District in the blazing sun.
