Now the leading figure of this music, Hailu Mergia, who was the band leader of Mulatu Astatke in the 1970s, is on his way. Mergia is one the main players of Ethio-jazz and master of the keys, including keyboard and accordion. Three years ago, under the headline “From Outer Space”, the Tagesspiegel newspaper proclaimed: “It was the best concert I’ve ever been to.” Now Hailu Mergia will come to Braunschweig for the first time ever.
