The Train Of Salt And Sugar

In Mozambique at the end of the 1980s, a train under military guard is on its way from Nampula to Malawi. The passengers are prepared to risk their lives to swap a few sacks of salt for sugar. Mariamu is travelling with her friend Rosa, a nurse. To the sound of bullets and laughter, the film tells stories of love and war. It is set against the backdrop of the complete collapse of supplies during the civil war. To ensure the survival of their families, women set up informal trade on cross-border goods transport.
