Sarah and Daniel chart the ocean. It’s that longing thing, a place you long for. Since longing is one of the main tropes of pop, pop music filled with longing can either totally fail, drift around devoid of ideas, or it can tell a story about its protagonists. The Colder Sea definitely live up to their name. Their music is a mix of retrowave, shoegaze, synth-pop and Italo disco, and happily cite Depeche Mode and New Order and the Italians Do It Better Family as influences. And they can afford to. Because they’ve found their own take, their own spin on the pop of longing. Chilled bonfire music for the end of the night.
