Barbara Morgenstern
“Übermorgen” is a track on Barbara Morgenstern’s current album: funky handclaps, distorted guitars, crystalline synthesisers. And the voices of Cologne’s electro-entertainer Justus Köhncke (crazy pop) and Berlin’s electro-entertainer Morgenstern (reliably melancholy). These days she has confidently grown out of the GDR organ sound that made her famous in the living-room scene in Berlin in the 1990s. However, she did perfect a certain intimacy with the audience back then that doesn’t require any clichéd slogans. On the first day of her Theaterformen workshop, which the keyboard player, producer, singer and director of the choir for Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin will give with Gudrun Gut, Morgenstern will give her own live performance.
“Very finely carved pop, although it really is pop in the literal sense, a kind of classicism in exile.” The Wire
